Our club marked a milestone on Tuesday, April 14th with something we’d never done before: a dedicated Icebreaker Night.
In Toastmasters, the Icebreaker speech is the first step for any new member—a chance to introduce themselves and begin their public speaking journey. This time, we had 10 members take that step all in one evening. With 10 speeches and 10 evaluations, it made for a full and lively meeting.
What stood out most was how confidently everyone showed up. For some, this was the first speech they’d ever given—but you wouldn’t have guessed it. Each speaker came across calm, composed, and self-assured, setting a strong tone for what’s ahead.
Beyond the speaking itself, the night was a great opportunity to get to know our newest members. Each speech offered a glimpse into their backgrounds, interests, and perspectives, adding to the sense of connection in the room.
We also had an incredible turnout, with 35 people in attendance—one of the largest meetings in our club’s history. We were especially pleased to have our Area Director, Polina, join us for the evening.
A big thank you to Karla and Laura for planning such a well-organized and engaging event.
All in all, it was a memorable night and a great reminder of what Toastmasters is all about: stepping outside your comfort zone, supporting one another, and growing together.
